Fall Capsule Wardrobe Prep (Part 4) — Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Keepers

August 3, 2017

I ordered every single item here, but how many will I keep?

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is winding down (August 6 is the last day before prices go back up to full price) and I’ve finally received almost all of the stuff that I ordered online.  Today I’m reviewing what I kept, what didn’t work for me, and why.  If you’ve been eyeing a few things from the sale, hopefully my product reviews will help you as you decide what to buy before the sale is gone.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe Prep (Part 3) — Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

July 27, 2017

I ordered every single item here, but how many will I keep?

Today I’m going over every single item that I ordered online from this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and more importantly—why.  But a conundrum has popped up.  How can I buy anything from the Anniversary Sale when my fall capsule wardrobe already looked complete after I finished Fall Capsule Wardrobe Prep (Part 2)?

Fall Capsule Wardrobe Prep (Part 1) — Action Plan

July 20, 2017

It’s almost time for me to shop my favorite sale of the year!

It’s the middle of July which means that it’s time for my favorite sale of the year—the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!  And I’m not alone.  Fashion bloggers and social media are a buzz with everyone’s top picks on what to buy at this year’s sale.  Here are some of my favorite’s:

But I can quickly become overwhelmed with all of this chatter about “what’s a must buy” and “what should be passed on” for this once a year sale.  All of these suggestions are great, but need to shop with an action plan for this sale.  I’m not good at on-site decision making and I’m an ex-shopaholic.  If I enter a store without a plan is going to be absolute chaos because I’ll be swept up in the excitement of the moment, succumb to the thrill of a great buy, and I most certainly will have on sales goggles and start buying things because I think it’s “a good deal.”  I shop best when I’ve outlined ahead of time what I’m going to buy.  Advance planning helps me to stay focused when I shop so that I buy things that fit my personal style, my lifestyle, and my budget.  It also helps to keep my shopaholic tendencies under lock and key, right where they belong.

If you’re a fellow shopaholic hopefully this plan will help you shop this sale with a focused eye.  And if you’ve already bought your stuff but can’t figure out what to keep and what to return, well this plan might help you too.

Memorial Day Sales — The Perfect Time

May 29, 2017

Memorial Day Sale Signs

Memorial Day Sales At JCrew, Target, and Macy’s.

Memorial Day Sales come at the perfect time of year—the beginning of the summer season.  If you’ve been following me on Instagram then you already know that I really enjoy shopping the Memorial Day Sales.  I sport my summer capsule wardrobe for 3 months, starting June 1, which makes the timing for Memorial Day sales perfect for me.  If I wait until Fourth of July, when seasonal merchandise gets the clearance sale treatment, I’ll already be halfway through the summer season.  And besides, by mid-summer, I’m already starting to think about upcoming back-to-school sales and my fall capsule wardrobe.

While I enjoy shopping during this holiday weekend, I don’t want to spend the entire weekend visiting the stores.  To ensure that my shopping sessions are short and fast I follow these 3 steps:

Different Day, Same Sale, Or Almost

November 17, 2016

How long has this dress really been on sale?

It’s the middle of November and the holiday shopping season is approaching fast.  This is the time of year when retailers step up their promotion game and I won’t be able to go anywhere or watch anything without seeing an ad for a sale.

But are these sales really as “new” as they sound?

Not always.  This pink A-line dress is listed on the retailer’s website as a “new markdown” item.  But when you shop as much as me, you learn all of the strategies that retailers use to get customers to buy.

It’s (Sort Of) On Sale

September 5, 2016

It’s on sale….maybe…

I noticed this sign at a retailer over the weekend and shook my head.  At first glance, it sounded like everything was on sale for 40% off.  When you re-read the sign, you realize that it stated “almost everything”, which means that most items, but not all, will be on sale.  Ok no biggie right?  I’ll just look for the sale items, which should be the majority of those pieces in the store.

Don’t Ask, Just Give

February 7, 2016

I was out in the stores shopping recently.  At the check-out counter the cashier points to the credit card pad and said, “Just hit OK so that I can complete your transaction.”  Luckily I glanced at the screen and noticed that the “OK” option was for me to give out my personal email address to sign up for coupons and special discount offers.  I looked at the worker and said, “No, I don’t want to do that.”  She looked surprised, then fumbled around and hit a few keys to complete the transaction.
