What To Consider When Buying Jewelry

November 6, 2017

Jewelry is an easy way to pull a look together.  Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings, you have a wide variety of options that can elevate any outfit.  In addition to what piece of jewelry you want to own, there’s another, even more important consideration to keep in mind—are you going to buy costume jewelry or fine jewelry?

In order to decide which option you want, you have to consider what quality of metal and stones you want your jewelry to have.

Spend or Save — Taupe Booties and Quilted Vests

October 19, 2017

Would you spend or save on this fall look?

One of the things that excites me the most about dressing for fall is that I get to wear all of my boots again.  Since it takes my area time to cool down enough to sport knee high and over the knee boots without overheating, I satisfy my craving for boots with booties first. As a blonde haired gal, I’m especially fond of taupe because it’s a lighter neutral than black, yet just as versatile. And a vest is the ideal topper for layering during transitional weather too. The torso keeps you warm, yet your arms are still uncovered so you don’t overheat.

If you’re thinking about adding a pair of booties or quilted vests to your fall wardrobe the first thing you have to decide is if you want to Spend or Save.

Here are the two options:

Spend Or Save — Fall Jacket

September 25, 2017

Both jackets are photographing black, but they are really navy. Should I Spend or Save?

Falls cool days is perfect jacket weather. While my favorite fall jacket is a leather jacket (or pleather is you prefer fake), some days it’s too wet outside to wear one. That’s when I reach for a jacket that is water resistant or water proof instead.

This year it was time for me to upgrade my fall jacket. Before I shop I always decide in advance exactly what I’m looking for. I already know that I’m shifting my wardrobe into more blues, so my search was narrowed down to the following criteria: blue, lightweight, water resistant (or water proof), upper to mid thigh in length, and a zipper closure. Features I was flexible on included whether or not the jacket had a hood, and the color of the hardware. My budget was set at $200. Once I had the specifics sorted out it was time to shop. Deciding before I walk into a store what I’m looking for helps me to stay focused when I shop. I can quickly weed through the selections and avoid becoming distracted by all of the pretty things!

5 Budget Friendly Style Tips For Women

September 7, 2017

Have you ever followed a fashion blogger or celebrity and felt jealous of their every move? Impeccable outfits, amazing shoes, gorgeous handbags, flawless make-up, perfect hair, a peek into a glam lifestyle can make any women green with envy. The dirty truth behind celebrities and Instagram’s top fashion bloggers is that they often have partnerships with luxury designers, so they either don’t pay for the stuff they wear or they buy it at a considerable discount. They also have a glam squad (hair, make-up, etc.) to help them get ready for events and professional appearances.

Does this mean that if you don’t have the budget or the professionals to help you get ready on a daily basis that you’re doomed to having no personal style? Absolutely not! Personal style is not about how much money you spend, it’s about what you do with your money.

Here are 5 tips on how to look fashionable when your budget doesn’t include buying out the designer’s collections or having a team of professionals to help you get ready.

Spend Or Save — Fall Florals and Loafer Mules

Would you spend or save on this outfit?

Last week I demonstrated how I can take 3 of my favorite summer outfits and transition them for fall. But what if you’re tired of your summer clothes and you want an entirely new outfit instead? Then it’s a great opportunity to refresh your style with a couple of trendy pieces.

Two of my picks for the 5 hot trends for fall 2017 for women were floral prints and raw hem jeans. No longer just for spring, this year designers have extended the life of flowers right into their fall collections by placing gorgeous blooms against dark backgrounds. Shaking up the classic skinny jean this season is their cousin, the raw hem jean. And while you could pair floral prints and raw hem jeans with ankle booties, I’m going to add in a different footwear option instead—loafer mules. Loafer mules first popped up in high fashion spring collections and their popularity is still going strong today. If you have a mild fall season, or you’re simply not ready to commit to boots yet, a loafer mule is a fun option.

But before you can shop first you have to decide which option you will pick—spend or save.

Going All In or A Gentle Touch — July 4th Edition

July 3, 2017

July 4 outfits

For the Fourth of July will you be Going All In or sporting A Gentle Touch?

On July 4, 1776 13 colonies gathered together to sign the Declaration of Independence, thus severing their political connection to Great Britain.  This was a monumental event.  Selecting what to wear to honor this occasion is not nearly as big of a decision as severing political ties to another country, but it is still a decision that you’ll have to make if you want to sport an outfit for this holiday.

In honor of the Fourth of July tomorrow today’s Going All In and A Gentle Touch outfits use the exact same shorts (the Faded Glory Bermuda shorts are $13.46) for both looks.  Doing so keeps the total price for these options very similar.

Spend Or Save — Denim Jacket

Denim-Jacket-Outfit

A denim jacket is one of my Top 10 Must Have’s For A Casual Spring Wardrobe.  I’ve been sporting the outfit combination of a blue denim jacket paired with a white t-shirt and black jeans for years.  It’s a favorite combination of mine because this outfit provides the comfort of a t-shirt and jeans outfit worn on the weekends, while also looking put together enough for a casual office environment during the week.  And I’m not alone.
