The DH Closet Challenge Part II-Wardrobe Refinement (Week 2)

The Working Closet after Week 2.

DH Closet Challenge Part II-Wardrobe Refinement working closet after week 2.

I’ve just completed Week 2 of The DH Closet Challenge Part II-Wardrobe RefinementAfter week one, I added 21 items to my working wardrobe.  Of these pieces, I already had 7 bottoms.  Therefore for week two, my goal was to focus on only adding tops.  Of course, life likes to throw curve balls and I had a last minute business trip, which meant sporting a business outfit.  My business trousers are usually kept in a separate closet, since they are not worn weekly.  The tops and blazers from my business capsule, I try to pair with jeans to increase their use so these pieces are part of my fall/winter (or spring/summer) wardrobes.  Of course, storing clothing in separate closets makes it easy to forget I own the item.  Not a good idea.

Taking A Little Off The Top

Purchased in July and returned in October.

Purchased in July // Returned in October

I want to eliminate the boutique for The DH Closet Challenge (Part II)-Wardrobe Refinement.  This means keeping the idea to purge clothing items top of mind.  Immediately a number of pieces that were purchased during my favorite sale and have gone unworn since were identified.  I returned a total of 8 items (7 clothing and one footwear).  Two of the items I returned are above (white/black knit and a black short sleeve poncho).

Purchased in July and returned in October.

I also returned: black and white knit, two tie neck blouses, and short black suede booties.  Additional items returned but not in the photos: black and white patterned blazer and bootcut jeans.

Starting The DH Closet Challenge Part II with an empty closet.

Starting The DH Closet Challenge Part II with an empty closet.

I find that the first week of a wardrobe challenge is usually the easiest.  For that first week, I’m establishing my wardrobe, and there are very few restrictions.  I can pull whatever items I am in the mood for.  Unfortunately, the weather itself has been a problem.  The beginning of our fall season usually has very large swings in temperature.  One day it’s 75F and the next day 55F.  Or if we get really lucky, it’s both at the same time (cold in the morning and really warm by the afternoon).  The extreme temperature range had me reaching for both warm and cold weather clothing, which can lead to a rather varied capsule wardrobe.

The DH Closet Challenge (Part II)-Wardrobe Refinement

October 8, 2015

The DH Closet Challenge is back, with a few tweaks.  Click the link for the original rules for The DH Closet Challenge (Part I).  Well, after having successfully completed The DH Challenge in the past, I already know what my current wardrobe size needs to be.  Yet I still yearn for a smaller wardrobe.

Why?

  1. Some days I still stare at my closet wondering what to wear.
  2. Occasionally I am tempted to browse, because I am bored with my wardrobe.
  3. Life is not static, my needs change, and so does my wardrobe.  If one capsule grows, it can be easy to forget that another capsule must shrink to maintain wardrobe totals.
  4. I’ve always enjoyed a good challenge.

This means it’s time to do another wardrobe challenge.
