Most people save their closet cleaning until spring time, but I think winter’s dark, cold, dreary days present the perfect opportunity to sit at home with a warm cuppa tea and organize my closet. A well organized closet let’s me start my day in a stylish way. Here are a few pointers on design tips for crafting a stylish, organized closet.
Group Like With Like
Hybrid zones lead to trouble. When like things are grouped together—shirts with shirts, pants with pants—there’s no question where to find something you’re looking for. Plus, like items grouped together is more pleasing to the eye. To go the extra mile, group your items by color from lightest to darkest (or vice versa) too.
Customize Your Shelves
No one says that every shelf has to be the same height. If you have extra space between shelves, at least 12 inches, you can add another shelf for your stuff. Make sure your shelving is working for you and YOUR stuff. If you have tall boots, move the shelf height up to accommodate them. Have a lot of folded sweaters, move the shelves down and add a few more so that you can spread out the stacks. This way, you won’t have too many sweaters stacked on top of each other which can cause them to topple over.
Add Pattern And Texture
Patterns and textures make a sterile space feel more personalized, especially if you have a walk in closet. A printed rug, a colored chandelier, decorative touches will give your closet a pleasant, esthetic touch and make your closet feel like another room in your house, instead of a place that’s just for storage.
Uniformity Is A Must
Matching hangers and the same colored bins eliminate visual clutter and make a space appear neater. It may also help you to maintain the space, because you won’t want to clutter it up and add chaos to all the order.
Keep A Mix Of Closed And Open Storage
Various types of closet storage is both visually appealing and increases functionality of the space. A mixture of storage solutions is also helpful for keeping out of season items out of sight until you’re ready to use them again.
