If you’re looking to improve your financial health in 2020, getting a handle on your shopping habits can be an important New Year’s resolution. To get your resolutions flowing, here are 5 shopping resolutions you may want to set—and keep— in 2020.
1. Plan Ahead
Nothing can derail a shopping trip faster than going into a store without a plan and shopping on a whim. But even worse is going to the wrong store, or shopping at the wrong time! Price comparison is a must for the savvy shopper. But the time of year that you shop is also important. Retailers follow a pattern and certain items are put on sale at the lowest price at specific times of the year.
You can plan your major purchases by keeping an eye on retailers and when they put the big ticket items on sale. Putting in some homework before you leave the house by writing a list, checking inventory online, and price comparing not only from store to store, but throughout the year, will help you stay on track and save more money. When it comes to shopping, planning ahead can make a huge impact.
2. Put Your Phone To Work
When you’re out and about, check your phone! Shopping apps can help you track your budget, notify you of sales, and compare prices. There are many apps to choose from, depending on what your goal is. Be sure to load an app on your phone for your needs, and remember to use it when you shop.
3. Pick The Right Products
Just because an item is on sale, doesn’t mean that it is the right item for you. Before you make a purchase, determine what you really need by making a list of the key features that you want. Spending money on feature that you don’t want, need, or will use, is wasted money. Sometimes, the less advanced option is the right option.
4. Build a (Better) Budget
If you don’t already have a budget, create one. And if you have one, check in and make sure it is still working for you. Creating a budget and sticking to it, is the easiest way to save money and help you stay on track with your financial goals. But a budget it only as good as the effort you put into creating it.
5. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Good
Studies have shown that what we wear, impacts how we feel, which impacts your ability to get stuff done. When you feel good, you do good. Dressing in clothes that flatter your figure and lighten your mood will stop you from browsing retailers and impulse shopping to make yourself feel good. If your closet is cluttered with clothes that don’t make you feel good, get rid of them. Then start wearing the pieces that make you happy, every single day and go into 2020 with a smile on your face and a spring in your step.
