Resolutions don’t have to be something that you make at the start of the new year and then it falls by the wayside in a month. Instead, pick a resolution that can have a positive impact on your wardrobe so that you can enjoy it for the entire year.
Get out of a wardrobe rut and inject a little fun into your personal style with one of these 5 fashion resolutions to make in 2018.
Practice Planning Outfits
Every season I create a new capsule wardrobe, and part of this process involves making sure that I have a handful of “grab-and-go” outfits. On days when I am in a hurry, or I just don’t want to think about what I’m going to wear, I reach for one of my pre-planned looks. Take a few hours on a weekend and use that time to put together at least 3 to 4 outfits that will work for your daily life. Then when those rush days pop up, you’ll be able to spend your time and energy focused on something else besides what you are going to wear. And as an added bonus when you pre-plan your outfits, it’s easier to spot the wardrobe holes that you need to fill the next time you shop.
Add A Little Ultra Violet
The Pantone color of the year for 2018 is Ultra Violet. Unlike purple, which is an intermediate color between blue and red on the color wheel, violet is actually a visible spectrum of color located next to blue and purple on the color wheel. Both purple and violet are colors that have traditionally been associated with royalty, and has been worn by Bishops in the Middle Ages and emperors during Roman times. An added bonus of violet is that it is a very flattering color on many skin tones. To inject a little fun into your wardrobe, consider adding one or two items in Ultra Violet (or any purple shade).
Shop With A List
It’s always fun to browse in the stores, but as a former shopaholic I can tell you that it is very easy for me to walk out of a store with an impulse purchase. To prevent me from going astray, I shop with a list, every. single. time. By knowing what I need before I walk into a store I’m able to avoid distractions, stay within my budget, and waste less time looking at things that will not work for my wardrobe.
Upgrade Your Daily Bag
One piece that you can use year round is a daily bag, if you pick the “right” bag for you. Black is a classic that works across the seasons. But so do other neutrals, especially tan, beige, abstract white, taupe, and grey. If you want to buy something new that you can use every day throughout the year, upgrade your daily bag with a seasonless neutral color.
Try A Trend That’s Outside Your Comfort Zone
Fringe, cold shoulders, open backs, glitter, animal prints, floral prints, velvet, fashion is full of trends every season. To prevent your style from falling into a rut, pick 1 trend of the season and give it a try. You can go small by adding the trend as an accessory, or go big and make the trend the centerpiece of your outfit. Regardless of how large or small your focus is, stretch your creativity by incorporating at least 1 trend into your wardrobe each season. You never know, perhaps the latest trend ends up becoming part of your signature style.
