5 Budget-Friendly Style Tips for Men
Every man deserves to be dressed well, period. Now, a large number of men may think that in order to look stylish, they have to break the bank, and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Yes, we are aware that there is an abundance of high-end and high-street pieces that are ridiculously overpriced, but there are also amazing fast-fashion brands that provide every man with the opportunity to be stylish and well put together on a daily basis. To that end, we’ve decided to lend all the gentlemen out there a helping hand with just a few tips and tricks that will make you look like you just stepped off the runway, but at a fraction of the price.
Know your stuff
Before you go shopping, equip yourself with some knowledge, or to be more specific, learn the difference between stylish and fashionable pieces. The stylish ones are those that will stand the test of time and look great year after year. Fashionable on the other hand, is just a synonym of trendy, and you should steer clear from these garments as they will lose appeal after just one season. For instance, classic shirts never go out of style, and you can wear them in different ways and make them work for any given occasion. Choose the ones in timeless and neutral shades such as white, light blue stripes, navy, olive green – colors that will always be in style, after all, minimalism is one of the hottest trends for fall 2017, and for a good reason – the everlasting quality to it. Go for classic cuts that fit well, and don’t fall prey to trendy oversized pieces or those that have too many details on them. The same rule applies to T-shirts and sweaters. Owning a decent amount of basics is the best thing you can do for your wardrobe and your style. Stock up on your whites, blacks, greys, navy and the evergreen striped shirts. They go well with everything, and always make you look classy and polished, even when you’re at your most casual. Avoid slogans and catch-phrases – those are trendy pieces that you will soon look at and think – what did I waste my money on?
Not about the money
It truly doesn’t take a million to look a million, and nothing makes a man look more dapper and handsome than great custom suits that just fit like a glove. Most men, when they buy off the rack, end up purchasing suits that are a size too big, or worse, purchase the wrong cut for their body type. It’s very important for a man to have a great suit, at least one, and it’s even more important that that suit fits amazingly well. Having your suit custom-made is not as expensive as it used to be, so don’t purchase this item off the rack – make an effort, because this suit will make you shine in more occasions than you think. Speaking of the fit, if you’re not the kind of guy who wears trousers a lot, and prefer jeans instead – again, follow a combination of tip number one and two – don’t go for trendy cuts and shades, and make sure they fit perfectly.
An indulgent item
Have you ever heard of the saying: “I’m not rich enough to buy cheap things”? While that saying might not resonate true in today’s world of quality items you can purchase on a budget, it still does apply to certain pieces. One such piece, or to be more specific, a pair, are shoes. When you buy cheap shoes, no matter how ‘classic’ and versatile they look, you’ll be back in stores in six months looking for a new pair. Why? Because the cheap ones don’t hold up very well and end up looking very worn and shabby in short amount of time. Therefore, a smart investment are calfskin shoes that will last much longer, not lose their shape and shine and will, in time, develop that gorgeous patina. You may not be aware of this, but people notice your shoes, and they say a lot about a person, so this is not an item you should skimp on. Better to have one pair of amazing shoes and sneakers than ten cheap ones.
One accessory to rule them all
If we have to pick one accessory that is worth purchasing, especially if we’re talking about looking amazing on a budget, it would definitely be a watch. There is something incredibly sophisticated and sexy about a man with a watch. Thanks to numerous young companies that offer timepieces at truly affordable prices, you don’t have to go bankrupt and buy a Rolex in order to look good. The only thing to bear in mind is, again, not to purchase a trendy watch – keep it classic and classy and make sure it goes with everything you own.
A great belt makes all the difference in the world. Although we’re currently living in a fashion stage of ‘anything goes’ a real man will never forget to match the color of his belt with the color of his shoes. Again, a good belt doesn’t have to cost a lot, and many fast-fashion retailers have a wonderful selection of belts that will make you look great while still within budget. Just make sure the shade is an exact match with the one on your shoes, and you are good to go.
