3 Ways To Restyle A Wedding Guest Dress

June 12, 2017

The summer months are a popular time of year for weddings, parties, dates, and galas. This can only mean one thing, finding a dress for all of these special occasions!  But what are you supposed to do with your new dress after the special event?

For myself, the dress would typically be found inside it’s garment bag shoved to the back of my closet.  Or maybe even in a separate closet other than my daily closet.  Regardless of where it was stored, the simple fact remained, after the special event my new dress always sat unworn.

But not anymore.

Here are 3 ways to restyle your wedding guest (or any special occasion) dress:

  1. Add a denim jacket.  For my casual wardrobe, a denim jacket is a must have item.  Pairing a floral dress and a denim jacket  together is a perfect pair.  The denim dresses down the look, while the floral print pairs very well with the blue color of the jacket.  I would add an espadrille to finish off the look.
  2. Swap the shoes for fashion sneakers.  A black dress is on every must have wardrobe list for a reason, it’s highly versatile.  Swapping a heeled shoe for a fashion sneaker, like the Adidas Superstar, is a fun way to remix a black dress.  This Panama hat completes the casual vibe.
  3. Fun layering as a skirt.  An evening wedding often brings with it the most dressy outfit option.  A chiffon midi dress with the addition of a crop top and black leather jacket worn over the top half is a great way to remix the dress so that now it looks like a skirt for a date night outfit.  Swapping the shoes for a block heel helps to add some edge to this ensemble.

Before you shop for a new wedding guest (or any special occasion) dress think about how you want to wear it after the event.  This will help you to not only narrow down your dress selection, but to also get more use out of your clothes after the special event is over.

What’s your favorite way to re-use your special occasion dresses?
