March 20, 2017
It might be snowing in my area but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming about spring. And I’m not alone, I’ve come across multiple trend lists for Spring 2017:
- Spring 2017 Fashion Trend Report: New York Fashion Week
- Top 10 Most Wearable Trends From The Spring 2017 Runways
- 10 Must Have Pieces To Add To Your Spring Wardrobe
- 12 Trends For Spring And Summer 2017
As someone who adores fashion, I’m always interested in learning about the latest trends. Trend lists are often created based off of 2 sources, what was shown during runway collections and what celebrities are wearing at recent events. While I find this information interesting, the suggestions are not always practical. Which begs the question;
How does someone incorporate the trends for Spring 2017 (or any fashion season) into a real life wardrobe, and not a wardrobe designed for runways and promotional events?
Here are 3 tips to keep in mind when looking to update your wardrobe for Spring 2017 (or any fashion season):
- Does it fit your current lifestyle?
- Does it fit your current wardrobe capsules?
- Does it fit your current color capsules?
You’ll notice that the recurring theme here is “current.” Indeed, it doesn’t matter how trendy the item is, if it’s going to sit inside your closet because you can’t use it, then it’s not worth spending your hard earned money on it.
With multiple Spring Trend lists and Spring Must Have’s to consider, the first thing I like to do is create my personal list of my favorite trends for the season. Some years I may pick only 1 or 2, and other years I might like them all! For Spring 2017, 5 trends caught my eye, shown at the top of this post:
Since I’m not interested in overhauling my Spring Capsule Wardrobe from scratch this year, my second step is to further narrow down the list. I don’t need to go out and buy every single thing on a trend list, even my own list, to be “trendy.” When I already have a capsule wardrobe that I like, my favorite way to incorporate the trends for the season is to pick only 1 or 2 trends to buy. This allows me to add in pieces that are current, fresh, and new, without overhauling my entire spring capsule wardrobe.
For example, during my recent Spring and Summer Capsule Wardrobe Prep (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3), a pair of flat shoes was a part of my new additions. I added flat shoes because flat, pointy toe shoes are “trendy” right now and I find the lack of heel ideal for as an 8-hour shoe for my fussy feet. And I made sure that the flat shoes I purchased were in a color that worked with my Spring Capsule Wardrobe.
But what do you do when you want to update your capsule wardrobe but you don’t like any of the latest trends? In my next post I’ll provide the answer, along with my personal list of Top 10 Must Have’s for a Casual Spring Capsule Wardrobe.
