The holiday’s are approaching fast bringing with it one of my favorite things about this time of year, the opportunity to get dressed up. My special occasion capsule is one of my least used capsules in my wardrobe. In fact, it’s used so little I’m purging it!
Why on earth would someone do this right before the holiday’s arrive?
Easy, because I no longer sport any of these items. In fact, the past few times I’ve needed an outfit for a wedding, or other special event, I’ve simply used pieces from my Business Capsule, as I mentioned in this post when I was prepping for fall.
Here’s what I’m getting rid of and why.
I’ve owned this wedding outfit since 2012, and I’ve only worn it once. I’ve been to multiple weddings in the past 4 years, but I stopped sporting dresses and skirts a few years back, which has left this outfit collecting dust. Clearly I don’t need to keep holding onto it anymore.
Continuing the theme of no skirts and dresses, this business suit, I’ve owned since 2011 and it’s only been worn twice. I always reach for a pant suit when I need to dress business formal.
This suit is photographing black, but it’s really aubergine. The color has always been difficult to match with shoes and my current business capsule is focused around a core of black, which means this suit has got to go. I’ve owned it since 2013 and have only worn it 5 times.
It’s always difficult to purge special occasion items from a wardrobe. These pieces typically cost a lot of money and have a low cost per wear associated with them. But if I want to own a small, functional wardrobe, then the deadweight has got to go. These items are simply no longer special to me.
Do you hold on to special occasion clothes for a long time?
