Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Fall/Winter capsule wardrobe for 2015.

In my last post I began reviewing my fall/winter capsule wardrobe for the end of the season.  Today I’m going to wrap up the analysis by reviewing the color capsules as well as the totals for this capsule wardrobe.

Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe-Colors

I currently have 9 colors and 7 color capsules in my Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe (excluding gear items):

  • Denim (Color Capsule)
  • Navy (Color Capsule)
  • Black (Color Capsule)
  • Ivory (Color Capsule)
  • Tan (Color Capsule)
  • Grey (Color Capsule)
  • Wine (Color Capsule)
  • Chestnut (Color)
  • Blush (Color)

Spring/Summer Capsule Wardrobe-Colors

In contrast, I have more colors in my Spring/Summer Capsule Wardrobe.  This capsule has 11 colors and 6 color capsules:

  • Navy (Color Capsule)
  • White (Color Capsule)
  • Black (Color Capsule)
  • Turquoise (Color Capsule)
  • Grey (Color)
  • Olive (Color)
  • Light Blue (Color)
  • Denim (Color Capsule)
  • Ivory (Color Capsule)
  • Tan (Color)
  • Blush (Color-added during shuffling capsule items)

How many colors bridge between the two capsules?

Seven out of 13, not bad.

  • Denim (Both)
  • Navy (Both)
  • Black (Both)
  • Ivory (Both)
  • Tan (Both)
  • Grey (Both)
  • Wine (fall/winter only)
  • Chestnut (fall/winter only)
  • Blush (Both)
  • White (spring/summer only)
  • Turquoise (spring/summer only)
  • Olive (spring/summer only)
  • Light Blue (spring/summer only)

In the future, if I want to add to my wardrobe, keeping in mind my currently colors and color capsules can help me keep this wardrobe cohesive.

Finally, at the end of the season, let’s take a look at the total number of items I ended up with for fall/winter.  While reviewing my colors for this wardrobe, I purged a few items.  This is the final tally:

Fall/Winter Capsule Wardrobe-Items

69 items in my fall/winter capsule wardrobe:

  • 6 bottoms (jeans and trousers; no change)
  • 17 toppers (this includes: pullover sweaters, blazers and cardigans; no change)
  • 6 knits (used for layering; purged 1, not shown in color post, it was stained with bleach, whoops!)
  • 8 gear items (5 toppers [fleece, fleece, fleece, vest, vest], 2 layering knits [turtlenecks] and 1 bottom [jean]; no change)
  • 8 shirts (for layering; added 1 black tunic)
  • 3 LS T’s (for layering; no change)
  • 4 tanks (for layering; no change)
  • 6 thermal layers (no change)
  • 4 scarves (no change)
  • 6 workout items (3 tops and 3 bottoms; no change; not shown in closet photo)
  • 1 Short Sleeve Tops/Knits (purged 2 tops, only 1 shell is left)

Do you sport lots of the same, or lots of different, colors across the seasons?

  1. This is so helpful. Thank you! I am working on naming my color capsules and identifying extra items that don’t fit. Reading your posts spurs me on. :).

    1. I am very happy to hear that the capsule posts and color analysis is helpful! It’s a lot of work, but the payoff is well worth it. I’ve found shopping a lot easier since I identified and committed to specific color capsules for my wardrobe.
