Planning Ahead For Gifts

Two Christmas Gifts.

Two Christmas Gifts

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday’s to you!  It is Christmas Day here in the United States, which means Christmas presents!  And one of the most common Christmas gifts that I receive, besides gift cards, is clothing.  While I adore to receive clothes and gift cards, there is a downside.  These gifts increase the size of my wardrobe!  So what’s a gal to do?

In the past, I would receive many items of clothing, each purchased on a whim while shopping for others.  But this year, I had a plan.  The two items above were purchased, with the intent to one in/one out with pieces currently in my wardrobe.  These two pieces will go in and these two pieces will go out.

As always I find it helpful to review why an item is leaving my wardrobe:

Black V-Neck Knit: I have two black knits and this one is always passed over in favor of the other knit.  It is thinner in weight and a little sheer.  Also I own four black items, and keeping in mind the power of three, I’d rather keep three black items that are varied in their styles instead of two items that are very similar in style.

Ivory Skinny Jean: Again keeping in mind the power of three, with the new addition I have four pairs of skinny jeans.  Except this ivory pair was constantly passed over in favor of the darker wash blue pairs.  The one pair of booties that I enjoy pairing with these ivory jeans, are not comfortable.  And I’d rather purge the jeans, than purchase another pair of booties  just to work with one bottom.

The ivory jeans are out, leaving me with 3 pairs of blue skinny jeans.

By having a plan, I am able to receive the gifts I enjoy, without mindlessly increasing the size of my wardrobe.  Any gift cards I receive, will be set aside for my spring/summer shopping, or to use when I shop for a gift for someone else during the year.  And any items of clothing that I did not ask for, will either be donated, or returned.

Do you have a plan for your Christmas/Holiday gifts?
