French In The Fall

The French Capsule Challenge Wardrobe.

The French Capsule Challenge Wardrobe for fall.

The French Capsule Challenge is back, this time for fall.  Fall is always a challenging time of year to dress for because the weather will often bounce around quite a bit throughout the day.  I’m itching for fall clothing but some days the weather is still warm (85F or higher) and the nights grow cooler (55F or lower).  This means a very versatile wardrobe with layers to allow for adjustments throughout the day.

Inspiration:

I am once again inspired by the numerous posts  about ‘Parisian or French Chic wardrobes.’  Last time I was inspired by some links of French wardrobes to use fewer colors for an outfit.

This time I’m going to apply the same limit on colors, but I’m going to add in the extra inspiration from the links below, use a core of solid basics with only a few seasonal items added in, often called the 5 piece French Wardrobe.

What I was thinking:

  • I wanted to select 3 colors: white, black, and brown for clothing items.  However, I quickly realized that all of these colors are neutrals that work well as a core color.  To prevent from becoming bored, I also added in teal, wine and coral for a little color to liven things up.
  • Since I began The DH Closet Challenge in Nov of last year, our fall season was almost over and I did not have many cool weather weight items in my fall/winter wardrobe.  As during the last challenge, I’m once again pulling items from the boutique to create my French Capsule Challenge wardrobe.
  • To echo the 5 piece French Wardrobe idea, I included 5 items that were new purchases for fall/winter.
  • I tried to keep a mixture of items from both the spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobes to maintain a blend of the two wardrobes.  The more seasons I can sport a particular piece, the better I feel about the money spent on the purchase.

What’s in the challenge wardrobe:

Three weeks, 21 items, here is the list and photos of the items:

  • Nude Ballet Flats
  • Black Ballet Flats

As with the last time for this challenge, I’ll still be using a handful of gear items, which are not included in the above total.  The 21 items for three weeks, will apply to both work and weekend wear.  My current job is casual enough that I can sport the same outfits for work days and weekend days.

Of course, I’m not giving up on The DH Closet Challenge, but I thought it would be fun to do another three week capsule experiment.

Does your seasonal wardrobe have to accommodate a variety of temperature changes?
