Overstuffed (Week 34)

June 29, 2014

That spring/summer wardrobe is looking full.

That spring/summer capsule wardrobe is looking crowded

I’ve noticed that I’ve had some wardrobe creep since starting The French Capsule Challenge.  I added 10 items to my spring/summer capsule wardrobe when I began the challenge.  To maintain some order in my wardrobe, it was time to do an edit of my working closet.

I added 10 items, and I’m purging 9.  Eight were taken out of my working closet and one, (that straggler pink flower print top) was the only item left in the boutique for spring/summer, that is also going in the donate bag.

Purging the 'wildcard' items.

Purging the ‘wildcard’ items.

My recent analysis on the color capsules in my spring/summer wardrobe made this closet purge very easy.  Seven of these items were ‘wildcard’ items and did not fit well into the color capsules in my wardrobe.  The brocade print bomber jacket, purple knit, and 3 t-shirts also do not work well for my fall/winter capsule wardrobe.  The salmon and mauve knits do not work well for my spring wardrobe, but they do work well for my fall wardrobe.  However, both pieces have pilled and show heavy wear, requiring replacement items.

The white blazer and boyfriend jeans on the left of the photo were not included in my recent analysis!  The blazer was at the dry cleaners and the boyfriend jeans were in the laundry bin.  Both pieces I have struggled to style.  The white blazer is a leftover item from an outfit with a dress.  The dress is long gone, and I’ve never been able to style the blazer without the dress.  The boyfriend jeans, I really like this idea, but I do not care for these without a heel.  And I rarely sport a heel.  I figure, if I forgot I owned these pieces when I ran my analysis, it’s time to let them go too.

After this closet edit, my spring/summer capsule wardrobe has a little more breathing room.

  • 10 toppers (this includes: pullover sweaters, blazers and cardigans; purged 2 blazers and 2 knits)
  • 4 knits (3/4 or LS, for layering; purged 1 knit)
  • 5 gear items (2 jeans and 2 hoodies; no change)
  • 3 shirts/blouses (no change)
  • 10 SS T’s/Tops (purged 3 t-shirts/tops)
