Analyzing Fall/Winter Part II

(I started The DH Closet Challenge in November of 2013 therefore I’ll be catching up on my progress to date in a series of posts.)

February 26, 2014

This is a two part post, part II is below and part I was here.

  • What’s left in the “boutique”?:  The short answer is, the size of the boutique has not changed since week 12.  My focus for The DH Closet Challenge has been my everyday clothes.  My current wardrobe total of everything in the ’boutique’ AND in my working closet is 188 items (this only includes clothes and scarves, which is my focus for purging during the challenge.)  Shoes, outerwear, lounge-wear, formal occasion wear, sleepwear, handbags and accessories, are not included in the challenge as these are areas that I do not own a ridiculous amount of excess in right now.  At least I don’t think so! 🙂
  • With only 54 items used for the fall/winter capsule wardrobe (my last post), I am left with 134 items in the ’boutique’.  Now I’m going to hypothesize.  If I also end up with 54 items for the spring/summer, I’ll only have 108 items in my working closet.  The ’boutique’ will still be in business and have 80 items.  That means I will still not be using about 42.6% of my entire wardrobe.
  • And with 80 items left in the boutique, I would be able to overhaul about 74% of my wardrobe, with ALL boutique items!  And since I only purged 24% of items during the fall/winter, it’s going to take me a long time (~6 times) to clear out the boutique if I do not do another large purge of boutique items.
  • Owning more than I need:  I am still amazed at the low number of clothes I need for a given season. I finished our winter season with only 5 heavy weight sweaters/jumpers, 2 mid weight sweaters/jumpers, 3 blazers, 1 jacket, and 1 cardigan.  That’s only 12 toppers, even though we had an extremely cold winter this year. And I currently own at least a dozen sweaters/jumpers if I add to this number in the one’s in the ’boutique.’ AND, none of my sweaters/jumpers from this past season are in need of replacement. I have enough extra to overhaul my sweater/jumper wardrobe, and I don’t even NEED to. Clearly I have a lot of work to do.

Have you ever thought that you owned more than you needed?
